In certain light, it appears almost black, but can otherwise appear almost a bright "beetle green," as I've heard this color described elsewhere. I would add that you should try to uncap the pen as Karas Kustoms went above and beyond on the nib engraving. True to its name, this pen exudes an art-deco, vintage vibe that you don't see very often in modern fountain pens. I’m not sure whether anything can actually be done to mitigate the issue - it’s an eyedropper fountain pen after all, and the design of the Vertex doesn’t lend itself to easily incorporating a seal or valve. If you're interested in a Decograph, I would highly recommend paying the upgrade charge and going with a titanium or gold nib, especially since Karas's nib pricing is very reasonable. That’s both a blessing and a curse. We also test, smooth, and tune every nib before shipping your pen to ensure the nib is writing as it should.

Karas has carried over the vintage design aesthetic from its previous “Signature” release, the Decograph, into a shorter, chunkier pen that I prefer. The metallic shimmer on the Galeocerdo acrylic makes me want to see more of this material.

While some have commented that these prices seem expensive, these are "small batch" pens made by an independently owned family company. Once I got the nib issue sorted out, the Decograph is an exceptionally nice writer. The grip sections are available in several finish and material options so you can customize your pen even more.
