While zebra danios often thrive in community aquariums alongside serene specimens, aggressive behavior is not unheard of in the species.Power in the zebra danio world isn't generally determined by factors such as size and gender. I have 3 total, plus one Tetra -- tank is just starting out so we couldn't add more fish (12 gal Fluval Edge tank that my 10-year old got for Christmas). Giant danios are a bit different. The Danio is going nuts now, after about 1 week of normal behavior.
The water temperatures and other parameters that are ideal for Danios may be less than ideal for other species. When populating an aquarium, compatibility issues are very important. If you do have any further questions please let us know okay? Yeah I think I'll add a few more Danios. I've just googled them and apparently their sale and import is banned in the EU, so no glofish for me.My Danio liked to bully all his tank mates except for the bigger female guppy. Will this aggressiveness go away once I start to add other species of fish in? and they will chase each other the full length of pretty much any size tank. Your fish may also be breading as others have said.
Ideally you should have at least five or six danios, in a tank that holds at least 25 gallons (95 liters). He seems to go more crazy when the light is on and seems to calm down a little with it off. Some aquarists are not altogether comfortable with the genetic engineering of fish. In an underpopulated tank, they'll often nip or chase after fish of lower ranking. I didnt listen to them and just gave them back to the danio.
Are these fish known to be aggressive? Usually the aggression is moderated if they are in large groups, but they are still bullies.
You can help to curb aggressive behavior, meanwhile, by making the tank environment more detailed. Fish often behave more calmly when they have many places to hide. Leaving the short fin bully with 2 long finned ones in the 'Sin Bin' tank.So far so good, the 3 put back with the Rasboras have not started acting up yet, and the short fin bully, has quietened down and does not seem to be having a go at the long fins yet.Maybe, they are just getting used to another new situation and previous behaviour will be repeated, but for now all is peaceful.I have 8 zebras and they are all kind of crazy. What about the aggressiveness with that one Danio, do they usually get less aggressive once other fish are introduced to the aquarium? It may help to add a few more zebras. Outside of fellow zebra danios, they tend to do well with tetras, mollies, gouramis, barbs, plecos, loaches and rasboras, for starters. A group of three fish in a smaller tank is acceptable, but can lead to stress or aggression. We decided to take him back....Blow me down if another one didn't step up and begin bullying. We decided to relocate the danios into another tank,My other half really likes danios, but I dont think we should keep any of them - they seem too aggressive.I would prefer a couple of feature fish to put with the Harlequins ( they are nice peaceful shoaling critters) and wondered if you have any suggestions.I'm no use to you either, i have 5 danios in my 100l tank and one of them is driving me and the tank mates mad. It's a pity i like watching them chase each other round in fun, just one of them has other ideas and is bullying a gourami 3 times it's sizeZebra danios have a reputation for being fin nippers. The tank is too small for anyone to get away and the primary danio is attacking them from stress. My tank has a lot of plants and hiding places so if any fish want a time out there's always someplace to get it.I am having a similar aggression problem with one Zebra Danio. I know the configuration couldnt have been more wrong for a danio but its really put me off them and I cant imagine buying any more even if I had a big enough tank.my zebra danio was agressive and nipped and chased the other fish constantly however it stopped after about 2 weeks, i think it was just stressed from being moved from 1 tank to another.I actually didn't know what Glofish were. Now there is peace amongst that tank!Well I've got 4 zebras, 6 neons & 5 cardinals, 10 rasboras (mix or hengel and Harlequins), 4 julii corydoras & 4 platies. Much larger, 4 inches or so, they can be aggressive, and may be used as dither fish in Cichlid tanks.
