The movie takes place during one summer in the life of a very old woman (Kurosawa has always been a director of great images, and in his old age he has permitted himself more fanciful, less realistic ones. There is little I can add to the reviews already written about this film other than, as a fan of Akira Kurosawa's movies, I enjoyed this film for its sense of place and time captured so well by the director.
